I usually write the event summaries myself, but since today is my lucky day, Tangos Chan of China Web 2.0 Review fame bet me to the punch. Take a look at his review and let me know what you think. A simple take away for me is that Avinash’s 90/10 rule:
“Spend 10% of the money on the tools and 90% on the people”. By people I mean not necessary salary but training and coaching. There is not enough skill and knowledge in the market to propel it forward. Google Analytics does a good job lowering the barrier with zero cost and an intuitive interface, but going deeper than the dashboard, and providing actionable insights needs additional investment of time and sometimes money (how about spending RMB 50 at at web analytics Wednesday event ![]()
I am looking forward to welcoming you and to our next event on October 8th where Paul Denlinger will speak about his efforts to establish the IAB in china.
Monthly Archive for September, 2008
It a new month, the sun is shining and the post Olympics blues is slowly fading. That sound like the right time for a Web Analytics
Wednesday! The original plan was to host Paul Denlinger to speak about his plan to set up the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) in China. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Paul cannot come back to Beijing
in time. So here is plan B:
Panel discussion about the “State of the industry”
Moderator: Florian Pihs
Panelists:
Wu Yong – Chinese Web Analytics entrepreneur
Yang Zhou – Google Analytics Account Manager
Song Jie – CEO of Banru a local web analytics vendor
Laker Chan – CEO SinoTech Search
Karen Ho – Digital Planning Director, OMD
Some topics I plan to ask about are:
1) How do we compare the status of the industry in China with other markets?
2) What are the key development in the space in China in the last year?
3) How ready are advertisers, publishers and agencies to adopt a more data driven strategy?
4) Which vendors are present in market offering web analytics solutions?
If you are as curious as me to hear what these experts have to say, please RSVP
- by commenting on this post
- or on the Web Analytics Wednesday Website
The format will be mainly standing room, with a few seats and buffet dinner. Our thanks go out again to Eric Peterson and the folks at Web Analytics Demystified who generously sponsor part of the cost of the event. Be prepared however to spend about RMB 50 for the evening. As usual the knowledge you get in exchange is invaluable
