All new Web Analytics Wednesday coming up this Wednesday featuring WebTrends (Location Changed)

While I still haven't managed to write up the last event, (shame on me) the next WAW is just around the corned! This time we have Mr. Li Guangyin speaking to introduce WebTrends. Guangyin has been with Ronghai Consulting, WebTrends' China distributor for more than 5 years and recently started his own independent Web Analytics practice. He is one of the most experience WebTrends implementers in town and I am already excited to pick his brain on some of the WebTrends issues that have been bugging us.

Time and location as follows:

Time: Wednesday June 4th / 8PM - 10PM
Location: Club Camp (near Workers Stadium) San Ge Guizhou Ren more detail and a map at Dianping

Please RSVP on the Web Analytics Wednesday Website or by commenting on this post.

See you on Wednesday

Is anyone using WebTrends ondemand? How is the speed accessing ondemand from China? How about WebTrends ODBC driver?I plan to take a vacation back to China in several months. And I may need to bring work with me. I'll also need to access HBX/Omniture, anyone using HBX?

    Thanks a lot!

We are currently using WebTrends on Demand. Speed suffers from the limited bandwidth to the US. Same as other tool. Only GA is an exception. Its workable though. Not sure about ODBC and HBX

Thank you for the feedback, Florian. I guess I'll need a backup plan.

Another thought about WebTrends ondemand, you mentioned speed limitation of WT ondemand in China.Have you thought about using ODBC driver? This is a component you can download from WT administration console. From my own experience, it is more efficient to use ODBC driver than manually export data from Ondemand. You’ll also be able to manipulate the data the way you want it to be. In our group, we use ODBC driver a lot. You can either write your own Macros or use Datalink (a separate software you need to purchase, but they usually offer free trial and the sales person there are really nice) to automate the report. We also use the SOAP interface to create the real time executive dashboard from WebTrends data. I hope that will help!

Thanks Angela. I am certainly going to look into that. I am not an expert on WebTrends myself, since I am more on the Omniture and Google Analytics side, but will ask our client teams with WebTrends accounts to take a look into the ODBC driver. It certainly sounds interesting. If I have any more questions, I may ask some team member to reach out to you. Would that work for you?

      Best,
      Florian

Sure. Although I am not an expert, I can definitely provide some information if needed. Also, WebTrends customer support is very helpful. Unlike Omniture, you get free customer support from WebTrends. But their recent update is not as smooth as expected.

WebTrends Marketing Lab2 version is pretty smooth. I particularly like the “site overlay” nice feature, its similar to ClickTracks in that it shows you the number of users entering into specific areas of a page, this can be very helpful if you have an e-commerce site and a particular product you are trying to sell just isn’t selling, you may test different more visible areas on your page and find the right place your visitors are clicking.
